ALMA: training and work experience abroad for young people not in work or education
A European Social Fund scheme for young people aged 18 to 29 who are not in employment, education or training: first a period of training in Italy, then 2 to 6 months of supervised work experience in another EU country, and finally help to find a job when you come back.
At a glance
How it works, step by step
1 · Look for calls in your area
ALMA calls are published by Regions, municipalities and training providers: ask at your local job centre (Centro per l'impiego) or Informagiovani office, or search for «ALMA» on your Region's website.
2 · Check the requirements
Age, residence, how long you have been out of work or education, any basic skills required.
3 · Apply
There is usually a form and an interview; each project has only a few places.
4 · Prepare and go
The training in Italy often includes a language course; then comes the experience abroad with a tutor.
Questions
Do I need a qualification?
Usually not: ALMA is designed precisely for people who have had a harder path. The call says so.
Are there calls all over Italy?
No, only where a Region or an organisation has an ALMA project: that is why it is worth asking at the job centre.
